Since a young girl I have devoured books and thrived on learning, be it through reading about other people’s stories, or the many forms of non-fiction available, whether text book or topical/current ideas. Added to this love of reading and knowledge, another one of my greatest passions and pleasures is to be able to share information with others.
As an avid reader I am surprised I have never quite taken to a Kindle or other online reading platforms.
Which means, for a bibliophile like me, I accumulate a rather large pile of books. I like the touch, feel, realness of a book, the comfort of them waiting like eager companions on my office desk or bedside table.
I have a wide range of books, all special friends in their own unique ways and my partner lovingly built me a library, with real ladder on wheels, to house them all when the office desk and bedside table and bookshelf began straining under them, all competing for attention.
And so I have affectionately amassed these collections of people’s creations and want to be able to share them with you. Not everyone wants to purchase and own a book on Neuropsychology or Philosophy, or is unsure about an off-beat novelist from Patagonia. I hope this excites you and gives you an opportunity to read a book you may not have considered reading before. Many of the people I meet in a therapeutic setting as well as through the workshops I run want to read a book which is pertinent to that time of their life. Some people need to page through a book on a certain period of their child’s development or to find out more about a specific idea. Some of my friends and family are such fast readers that to purchase books seems a little silly and so my library is the go-to for a quick read.
This is how the idea of the Bookshare came about. It has been created for you and me – for me to share what I have learnt, discovered, explored and pondered through words, and you to be able to borrow, peruse, enjoy and return.
They are offered in love and good faith that the books and audios will be loved and nurtured and returned happy and intact in order to be passed on again.
The nitty-gritty of how it works:
- This Bookshare is only offered to local residents of the greater Ballito area for the logistics of collection and drop-offs
- Subscribe to the Bookshare for 6 months at a cost of R250.00 (the cost of purchasing a book if you think of it like that!)
- After 6 months you will be reminded to renew should you wish to do so, it will not be an automatic renewal
- You can check on-line which books and audios are available in the library
- You will be able to book on-line. Collection will be from my office in Ballito from 7:30-8:00am on a Monday morning.
- You will be able to keep the book or audio for a maximum of two weeks
- You can either drop off your return again at my offices on a Monday between 7:30-8:00am or drop into the box outside by office within your two-week period
Should you lose or damage a book or audio I will ask you to either replace or to pop in and use the Zapper facility at my office to reimburse the library for the book or audio to be replaced. Cost of this will be the current replacement cost which we can check online (I really want to avoid this so just love the books!)
